At Outback, we believe that is critical for students to continue their education during treatment, rather than taking a break from school altogether. To accomplish this goal, Outback has designed a unique academic program that helps students continue their education while receiving intense clinical support, therapeutic treatment, and development assistance. In 2007, Outback received accreditation with CITA (Commission on International and Trans Regional Accreditation) as well as NCA (North Central Accreditation).
Outback's staff and Academic Coordinator hand out assignment packets on a weekly basis. Our academic program uses approved educational materials and techniques in four areas of the Utah State Office of Education's approved curriculum:
- Health II
- PE
- Art
- Life Skills
Each Outback student has the potential to earn one semester's worth of academic credit in each course during a typical six-week stay. This is the same credit that a student can earn during a full quarter in a traditional school setting. Each student is informed that these credits do count and will be recorded on their transcripts, even if they are unfavorable. Upon completion of the program, each student’s academic transcript will be sent home to parents.
Outback maintains an intense clinical focus while integrating the academic component in ways that enhance the student's overall experience, provide additional assessment opportunities, and address motivational issues as needed. This approach provides a balanced, multi-dimensional solution for parents and their children.
