The Challenges and Emotions of Wilderness Therapy

Away from their normal, everyday troubles and anxieties, teens in wilderness adventure therapy are often able to open up for the first time. This can result in an out-pouring of emotion as a student’s true feelings fight through the walls that they use to mask these feelings— walls that have become barriers for learning and for communication with loved ones. Learning to let their feelings go is an important part of the healing process, and it allows the student to begin to rebuild.
