While many substance-abusing teens have used external chemicals to alter neurochemistry during recent months or years, technology-addicted youth have typically been exposed to digital media for far longer, often since they were toddlers! How does excessive exposure alter cognitive structures? What processes are affected? What vulnerability factors predispose clients to electronic addictions? How can these clients re-create healthy neural-pathways? Are social media and the internet less or more impactful to cognitive development than video games? This presentation will explore each of these questions and leave participants with new insights into the neurological strengths and deficits of the technology-addicted client.
